BēCN Pets

Accessibility Statement

Effective Date: [DATE]  ·  Last Updated: [DATE]

Our commitment

BēCN Technologies, LLC, operating as BēCN Pets, builds technology for people who are too often left out of it.

Our products serve people with special needs, people with cognitive disabilities, people with mobility and dexterity limitations, people with low vision or who are blind, people who are deaf or hard of hearing, older adults, and the families and caregivers who support them. Many of our users rely on assistive technology every day.

Accessibility is therefore not a compliance checkbox for us. It is a core design requirement. A platform that helps keep a pet safe is only useful if the person who needs it can actually use it.

This statement explains where we stand, what we have done, what we know is still incomplete, and how to tell us when we have fallen short.

Conformance status

Target standard: Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA.

Current status: [Partially conformant / Substantially conformant] — as of [DATE].

"Partially conformant" means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the standard. Known exceptions are listed in Known limitations below.

What we have done

1. Semantic, standards-based markup. Our pages use proper headings, landmarks, lists, and tables, so screen readers and other assistive technology can interpret structure and navigate by section.

2. Keyboard accessibility. Interactive elements are reachable and operable by keyboard, with a visible focus indicator. We do not rely on hover-only interactions.

3. Text alternatives. Meaningful images carry alternative text. Decorative images are marked so they are skipped.

4. Colour and contrast. Text and interface elements are designed to meet WCAG contrast requirements against their backgrounds. Information is never conveyed by colour alone.

5. Resizable text. Text can be enlarged to at least 200% without loss of content or function, and our layouts use relative units so they reflow rather than break.

6. Reduced motion. We respect the operating system's reduced-motion preference and do not rely on animation to convey information.

7. Touch target size. Interactive controls are sized to be operable by people with limited dexterity and by people using a stylus or switch device.

8. Plain language. We write our documents, error messages, and interface text in plain language, and avoid jargon where a simpler word will do. This benefits users with cognitive disabilities, users with limited English proficiency, and everyone else under pressure.

9. Accessible support. We offer support by email rather than requiring you to use a web form, so that you can reach a person directly and describe a problem in your own words. You never need to work through a form to get help.

10. Accessible document formats. Our policies are published as accessible web pages rather than scanned images or untagged PDFs, so they can be read with assistive technology.

Known limitations

We would rather tell you what is not finished than claim a standard we do not yet meet.

Area Limitation Status
[AREA — e.g., the pet record editor] [DESCRIBE THE LIMITATION] [Fix targeted for DATE]
[AREA] [DESCRIBE] [STATUS]
Video content Where we publish video, captions and transcripts are [incomplete / in progress] In progress
Third-party components Some embedded third-party components are outside our direct control Under review

Assistive technology compatibility

Our platform is designed to work with current versions of:

Category Examples
Screen readers NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver
Screen magnification ZoomText, operating system magnifiers
Speech recognition Dragon NaturallySpeaking, operating system dictation
Switch and alternative input Switch access, head pointer, adaptive keyboards
Operating system accessibility High contrast, reduced motion, larger text settings

We test with a combination of automated tools and manual testing, including keyboard-only navigation. We have not yet completed testing with every combination above, and we welcome reports about specific configurations that do not work.

Feedback and contact

If any part of our platform or website is difficult or impossible for you to use, please tell us. We want to know, and we will help you directly and work to fix the underlying issue.

What to tell us

You do not need to use technical language. A plain description of what went wrong is enough for us to investigate.

Our commitment

Action Our target
Acknowledge your message Within [TWO (2)] business days
Provide an individual response, including a workaround where one exists Within [TEN (10)] business days
Fix or schedule a fix for confirmed barriers Communicated with a target date

If you need help using the platform right now — for example, to register a pet or to respond to a lost-pet alert — write to [accessibility@becnpets.com] and tell us what you need in your own words. A person will help you directly, and where we can we will complete the step with you or for you. You should never have to navigate a barrier alone to keep a pet safe.

Enforcement and escalation

If you contact us about an accessibility barrier and are not satisfied with our response, you may escalate to [ESCALATION CONTACT / EMAIL], and we will review the matter at a senior level.

Where a legal remedy applies in your jurisdiction, this statement does not limit it. We would rather resolve an accessibility problem directly than through a complaint, and we would welcome the chance to do so.

Third-party content

Some content on our platform is provided by third parties — for example, mapping services, payment processing, and embedded media. We cannot guarantee the accessibility of content we do not control, but we consider accessibility when selecting providers, we raise reported issues with them, and where practical we provide an accessible alternative.

Ongoing efforts

Accessibility is not a project with an end date. Our commitments:

Commitment Frequency
Automated accessibility testing in our development pipeline Continuous
Manual keyboard and screen reader testing of new features Before release
Review of reported barriers Ongoing, with tracked remediation
Independent accessibility audit [Annually / before major release]
Accessibility criteria in our design and development review Every feature

We build accessibility into the design stage rather than retrofitting it. Retrofitting is slower, more expensive, and reliably worse for the people who depend on it.

Document formats

If you need any of our policies or product documentation in another format — large print, high contrast, plain text, audio, or a language other than English — contact [accessibility@becnpets.com] and we will provide it. There is no charge.

A note on why this matters to us

BēCN Pets was built by a family that lives this every day. Our founder's son has Down syndrome, and his daughter is a college student with Spinal Muscular Atrophy. The people we build for are not a market segment to us — they are family, and they are the reason the company exists.

Accessibility is how we keep that promise in the product itself. If we build something a person cannot use, we have not served them, no matter what the marketing says.

If something here does not work for you, we want to hear it.
